From Jason Givens

Notice to all clubs.

There is a slight scheduling issue that needs to be explained to all. I, along with most
of the rest of the Spaniel world, have always counted the first full or partial weekend
of the year as weekend #1. Our schedules have always been set accordingly, that is
how our Spring schedule was set this year.

Officially, the AKC doesn't count the first weekend if it falls on the 1st or 2nd, as it
did this year. So, according to the AKC the first official weekend of the year is the
second weekend (January 8-9). I bet you can't re-read that without laughing. In
practice this will not affect us as we will keep to our original schedule. What it
means is all clubs will officially hold their trials one weekend earlier then normal.
For example, Sportsman's Spring trial is March 12-13 this year. Sportsman's
normally has Week 11. This year their trial will still be March 12-13, but the
AKC thinks that is week 10. So this will not really affect our dates at all but I
wanted all to be aware of what was happening in case you discover it on your own.

As for the Fall we are going to stay with our schedule instead of the AKC for two reasons:

1. It looks as if Rocky Mountain is going to be off a week also and it is important that
we mesh with them as we shouldn't have Northern MN doubling with North Dakota.
They are too close geographically.

2. We don't have enough dates anyway as the National is early. We would really
disadvantage our schedule if we took an additional weekend off it.

This will in no way affect any club's seniority for their particular weekend.
As far as we are concerned it is business as normal.

Here is the proposed Fall schedule. Notice Iowa and Southern WI are not listed. Again,
we will have to find a home for them by either double dating or having mid-week trials.
Any suggestions (the more positive the better) would be most appreciated.

Thank you, Jason Givens Mid-West Interclub Chair
