Time for one last post before I head for the airport to wait for my flight. It has been raining since early last evening. So far it has just been rain as the temperature is the low 50s. While a wet proposition for the handlers, this rain will help deal with the ice on the water that prevented the completion of the water series yesterday. It was said during the banquet that it takes many hands to put on a national event like this. Very true words. Folks scurried around like an army of ants getting things ready and also picking up after we moved on to new grounds. Participants also helped out by picking up that stray piece of garbage found on the course. The reception by the land owners was tremendous. This community laid out the red carpet for this event. THANK YOU! I had the opportunity to put faces with names I have only listed on the results page. I made new friends and caught up with old ones. I wish each and everyone save travels and blessed holidays. We will see you down the road. Nadine Evening folks. The Water Series will start at 8:30am tomorrow morning. That old fashioined blizzard in Minneapolis will make for some challenging travel for many folks here at the NAC. My flight tomorrow morning has already been cancelled. I hope to get out on a fight tomorrow night. Stay tuned for updates from the Water and for Placements. Bev Matthews has graciously agreed to relay the information to Mary so that updates can be made. I am bummed to have to leave before the conclusion. 5:30 EST - Bev Matthews just called with the water series callbacks. 13 back to the water! 3:30 EST The fifth series is complete! They will resume in the morning with the water series. In snowy Minnesota they have closed the airport at 11:30 am today. We have an old fashioned blizzard in Minneapolis. 1:00 EST - They just started the fifth series. Good luck to all! 11:55 EST - Nadine called with the fifth series callbacks. 17 dogs back to the fifth! They are on their way to the grounds to begin the fifth. 11:15 EST The fourth series is complete. They are will get callbacks and then caravan to the grounds for the fifth series. Texting from the field. 10:10 EST - Nadine called as they just finished the first lap of the day. Dogs 65 and 67 are down. 8:00 EST - Nadine called from the field. The Third Series wrapped up about 7:50 EST. They went right into the Fourth Series. Complete callbacks are now listed 37 total back to the fourth. More later! I'm in the middle of a snowstorm here in Minneapolis. Maybe I will finally get the last of the NOC photos from Tues and Wed done. But I'll be close to my laptop for updates. Saturday 12/11 - Lots to accomplish today. There are 3 dogs left in the Third Series and then we march smartly along after callbacks to get the 4th done. The temp now at 5am is 23 degrees with 95% humidity. Not much for wind. Highs today are forecast 41-46. Tonight rain/freezing rain is headed our way. Not at all what other parts of the country will see. Mary let me know that she has found a link to the report that the local TV station did on Wedneday on the NAC. Here is a link: WBOC Channel 16 Below are **PARTIAL** callbacks for the 4th Series. We still have the three dogs listed below that will finish the 3rd this morning. I will contact Mary to post the complete callbacks from the field. It is looking like the event will perhaps finish tomorrow. I will apologise in advance as I need to catch a flight to return home in the morning. Arrangements will be made to have get the placements posted as quickly as possible via phone. 3:30 CST Nadine called to say they were finished for the day. There are three dogs left to run in the third series 99, 100 and 103 Friday 2pm. I made a quick run back to the hotel. The grounds are just 10 minutes away. We finished the first round on the new course at 1:20pm. It took exactly 2 hours to complete. It appears to be about 160 acres. The cover is heavier than we had for the first 2 series. Dogs 38 and 40 were still down for another contact each. Friday 10:00 am CST (11:00 at the NAC grounds) - Nadine called in with the third series callbacks. 59 dogs back! The course is 45 flags long in a big circle. The expect it to take two hours to complete a lap. Friday 12/10 - Good Morning! Should be another sunny day here in Cambridge. Temps are climbing up for us. It is 29 degrees now at 6am but a high of 40 is forecast. Looking at the weather channel back towards home it is showing that folks are not as fortunate. Wishing those that have left ahead of us for home a very safe journey. Glad I had the snow blower tuned up before I left! I was reminded that each time I leave for an event, there is usually some major snow accumulation. Here is the plan for today....off in a short time to head back to the 2nd series grounds to finish up the remaining dogs. Then we all caravan over to new grounds. I expect to get callbacks for the 3rd there. I am planning to have Mary upload the 3rd series callbacks for me. Just a quick note here to say Thank you Mary! This is not a job that just one person can do by themselves. Our emails don't stop and work still needs to be completed on the website while events like this are going on. It is great to send a text or make a call to get information from the field up for those watching from home. We ended the day at 4:04. Dogs #73 and #76 will be down first thing tomorrow morning as we work to finish up the Second Series. Then a short drive over to the Third Series grounds while the Judges deliberate on callbacks. Feels good to get my boots off tonight and run around in just socks (smile). Nadine texted from the field at 1:20 (CST) Number 47 and 56 were down. They are stopping at 4:00 again today and do not expect to finish the second series today. Thursday - Complete Second Series Callbacks have were announced at 10:30. Please see listed below. The first 2 dogs were called to the line for the 2nd as I was leaving to post this note. The course was altered slightly to make it a continuous loop to avoid lost time while moving from the end of one course while moving to the start of the next. Thursday 121/9 - Clear and 21 degrees. The event will get started in just minutes this morning continuing on with dogs #79 and #80. Just back after the Banquet - WONDERFUL food! The support that has come from the local community for this event has been overwhelming. Partial callbacks were announced tonight. In respect of the individuals who have not yet run in the First Series, I will wait until the complete callbacks for the Second Series have been announced at the conclusion of the First tomorow. High Point and other awards were presented this evening. I will get the recipients posted as soon as I can. Unfortunately I was unable to get any photos. Sorry! Working now to post photos taken from the field today. The event will continue tomorrow, beginning at 7:30am. The weather is forecast to be colder yet but hopefully the winds will be less. I have one layer left to add before I exhaust what clothing I could fit into my suitcase. Gotta love the weight/size restrictions imposed by the airlines. Thankfully there is a WalMart close by (smile). I will be working on putting up the photos taken today. Sorry for the ones with the dark blur in one corner. That would be from my heavy cloves. A quick note about the cover. I enqired about the different types of grasses that make up the fields for the First/Second Series. It is a CRP blend that is specific to this region. Wednesday - 5:06. How slick is this!?!? The grounds are less than 10 minutes from the hotel. (smile) The day was ended at 4:14 so that the last two dogs down at 4pm could finish their runs. We will start tomorrow with dogs #79 and #80. The wind today kept us all bundled up. I am warming up now with a cup of hot Earl Grey tea. First Series sponsor is Salmy Acres Kennel - Mike and Julieann Wallace. Wednesday 12/8 - 12:00 EST - Nadine sent a text from the field. They were coming up on noon (EST) and were halfway through the third lap. Dogs 34 and 35 were running . They are doing about 12 dogs per round on the 34 flag course. Two scratches #26 and #42. More later! Tuesday 12/7 - Left home at 5am for my flight out of Minneapolis. It was a chilly 5 degrees with 12 inches of snow in my yard from the storm last Friday. When I arrived in Baltimore, MD the temp was in the 30's with a strong NW wind (read turbulence here). However, the grass is still green and not a snowflake in sight. We will start at 8am tomorrow. The course is 34 flags long. We will stop at 4pm. Starting time for the remainder of the event will be 7:30pm. |
