As a young boy, I had a strong hunting desire. I lived in a small town until I was 12 years of age. I used to walk from barber shop to barber shop looking at Field & Stream and Outdoor Life magazines. I had the time memorized as to when the next issue would be out. I bought my first English Springer Spaniel in January of 1973 from Kunz Kennels through an ad they had in Field & Stream. I paid $50 for her. She was not a field bred Springer as I didn’t know there was such a dog. I missed a lot of birds over that dog and her daughters. I purchased my first Field Bred Springer in 1989, Doorcreek Sneakers. She never ran in a field trial as I didn’t know about this exciting game at the time. I had the fortunate opportunity to run her daughters in field trials, FC AFC CFC Doorcreek Megan, AFC Doorcreek Annie and FC Doorcreek Trick or Treat. So Sneakers was my base in the field trial game, God bless her. Through the help of my wife, Pat, of 33 years, and many friends in training, I have had a wonderful experience of field trialing and judging. It’s amazing how many great people Pat and I have met from the United States and Canada. It’s funny how the topics in conversation always are about dogs and this is one topic we never get bored talking about. My love for the dogs shows through my hunting, breeding, training and competing in field trials. I’m very honored to be judging the 2007 Amateur National. Thank you for the confidence you have in me as a judge. I hope the dogs all have the best week of their life. Chuck Nelson |
